Investment Management

Tweedy, Browne employs a team-oriented approach in the management of the Funds. Investment decisions are made by a consensus of the available members of the Investment Committee, which consists of seven long-serving investment professionals, including William H. Browne, Roger R. de Bree, Frank H. Hawrylak, Jay Hill, Thomas H. Shrager, John D. Spears and Robert Q. Wyckoff, Jr., each of whom is a Managing Director. The members of the Investment Committee have extensive investment experience, as indicated in their bios below, and have spent between 17 and 45 years (30 years on average) at Tweedy, Browne.

Firm Management

Tweedy, Browne's operations are managed by its Management Committee, which consists of William H. Browne, Thomas H. Shrager, John D. Spears and Robert Q. Wyckoff, Jr., who have been with the firm for tenures ranging from 28 to 45 years. The Management Committee is responsible for all business decisions made by the firm. Will Browne and John Spears have worked together and have served as principals of the firm for over 41 years. No principal has ever left Tweedy, Browne to join another investment firm. While there are no current anticipated retirements, when the time comes, departing members of the Management Committee will be replaced by other long-serving Tweedy, Browne employees.

Ownership

Tweedy, Browne is owned by its Managing Directors and certain other employees and by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Affiliated Managers Group, Inc. ("AMG"), which owns a majority interest in the firm. AMG provides the Firm with operational autonomy and a seamless mechanism for ownership transfer and succession. In its entire history, Tweedy, Browne has had only eleven principals, four of whom are currently active.


As of March 31, 2020, the current Managing Directors and retired principals and their families, as well as employees of Tweedy, Browne had more than $1.1 billion in portfolios combined with or similar to client portfolios, including approximately $113.8 million in the Global Value Fund, $66.3 million in the Value Fund, $6.6 million in the Worldwide High Dividend Yield Value Fund, and $5.2 million in the Global Value Fund II -- Currency Unhedged.


Investment Committee


William H. Browne

William H. Browne has been with Tweedy, Browne Company LLC, a registered investment adviser, since 1978 and is a member of the firm's Management Committee and Investment Committee. He is a Managing Director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC, Vice President and Director of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc., a mutual fund group comprised of the Tweedy, Browne Global Value Fund, the Tweedy, Browne Global Value Fund II - Currency Unhedged, the Tweedy, Browne Value Fund and Tweedy, Browne Worldwide High Dividend Yield Value Fund. Additionally, he is a member of the Executive Advisory Board of the Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing, and Trustee Emeritus of Colgate University. Mr. Browne holds the degrees of B.A. from Colgate University and M.B.A. from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Roger R. de Bree

Roger R. de Bree has been with Tweedy, Browne since 2000. He is an analyst and member of the firm's Investment Committee, as well as Treasurer of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc. In 2011, he became an equity stakeholder in the firm and a Managing Director in 2020. Before joining Tweedy, Browne Roger worked at ABN AMRO Bank and MeesPierson Inc. He has an undergraduate degree in business administration from Nijenrode, the Netherlands School of Business in Breukelen, the Netherlands as well as a M.B.A. from IESE, University of Navarre in Barcelona, Spain.

Frank H. Hawrylak, CFA

Frank H. Hawrylak, CFA has been with Tweedy, Browne since 1986. He is an analyst and member of the firm's Investment Committee. In 2011, he became an equity stakeholder in the firm and a Managing Director in 2020. Prior to joining Tweedy, Browne, Frank worked in the investment department at Royal Insurance. Mr. Hawrylak received a B.S. from the University of Arizona and an M.B.A. from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Jay Hill, CFA

Jay Hill, CFA has been with Tweedy, Browne since 2003. He is an analyst and member of the firm's Investment Committee. In 2011, he became an equity stakeholder in the firm and a Managing Director in 2020. Prior to joining Tweedy, Browne, Jay held positions with Banc of America Securities LLC, Credit Lyonnais Securities (USA) Inc., and Providence Capital, Inc. Jay received a B.B.A. from Texas Tech University.

Thomas H. Shrager

Thomas H. Shrager has been associated with the Investment Adviser since 1989 and is a Managing Director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC. Mr. Shrager is a member of the firm's Investment Committee and Management Committee, and is the President and a Director of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc. Previously he had worked in mergers and acquisitions at Bear Stearns, and as a consultant for Arthur D. Little. He received a B.A. and a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University.

John D. Spears

John D. Spears joined the Investment Adviser in 1974 and is a member of the firm's Management Committee and Investment Committee. He is a Managing Director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC, and Vice President of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc. Previously, he had been in the investment business with Berger, Kent Associates; Davic Associates; and Hornblower & Weeks-Hemphill, Noyes & Co. Mr. Spears studied at the Babson Institute of Business Administration, Drexel Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania ‐ The Wharton School.

Robert Q. Wyckoff, Jr.

Robert Q. Wyckoff, Jr. has been associated with the Investment Adviser since 1991 and is a Managing Director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC. Mr. Wyckoff is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and Management Committee and is the Chairman and Vice President of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc. Prior to joining the Investment Adviser, he held positions with Bessemer Trust, C.J. Lawrence, J&W Seligman, and Stillrock Management. He received a B.A. from Washington & Lee University and a J.D. from the University of Florida School of Law.

Jason Minard

Jason J. Minard has been with Tweedy, Browne since 1999. He is responsible for business development and client services. In 2011, he became an equity stakeholder in the firm and a Managing Director in 2020. Prior to joining Tweedy, Browne he worked in the private client departments at Warburg Pincus Asset Management and Zweig/Avatar Capital Management. Mr. Minard holds a B.A. degree from the State University of New York at Albany and an M.B.A. from Fordham University.
